Stand Again Racist Attacks

Stand Against Racist Attacks

Since the Nazis have established their bunker headquarters in the Worcester Library the following has taken place. Two Black children in Worcester had beer bottles thrown at them while being called “niggers”.  Somali immigrants in New Hampshire had racial sluts written onto their  homes. Dark skin Latinos in Milford have been daily harassed amd attacked by thugs.

In response to these and other racist attacks an Ad hoc Coalition was formed on October 4, 2011. Meeting in the Neighborhood Center on Pleasant St. The Coalition heard the details of the racism and racial attacks. Martha from the Providence Area AFSC told of the fear of the Somali families and how their neighbors immediately condemn the racist attacks and held a “ love thy Neighbor”  event.  In Milfordwhere she had personal contact with the victims,  Martha  talked of the fear of the dark skin Latinos, especially the women and children, whom the thugs verbally abuse and sometimes spit on. The women now shop outside of the Milford and the children are reluctant to go to school.

Some of the discussion was about how racism could be spread through what appears to be neutral policy that hadvedisparate impact. For example for scores of years a Black criminal suspect would have his race mentioned on the news. For a White criminal suspect his race would not be mentioned. This led to the perception that most crime was committed by Black people. The same is now taking place for immigrants whose status is mentioned, but the status of native born is never mentioned on TV.

Also discussed  was how the City of Worcester has failed to lead in taking a stand against racist attacks. Although the City is a “No Place for Hate “city, the City’s “Coalitions against Hate and Bias” has not done much to oppose the growing racism and racist attacks. The City’s representative said that the manager was working behind the scene.

The Ad Hoc group tentatively took the name Stand Against Racist Attacks and it
promised to step into the vacuum and help to organized city wide condemnation of racism, racist attacks, and the people perpetrate or support the racism. The group will prepare a statement to be read before the press on Oct. 18, 2011 at City Hall Plaza at
6 :15 PM. The statement will be read against at the City Council meeting and a petition for the City Council to condemn the racist attacks in the City and elsewhere will be op presented. On Human Rights Day December 10, 2011 the group wants to join with others in supporting Humans rights and condemning racism and oppression of all kind.
